The Strathcona Circle Wrist Band Project
The Strathcona Circle Wrist Band Project is now in its second year here at SPL. Wristbands are used for a number of reasons, one of which is to help to identify guests on different packages/programs, as well as staff and COLT students. We also have wristbands for sale in our gift shop and then contribute the proceeds to several projects that are decided on by our staff.
The Strathcona Circle symbolizes the six core values of SPL: More with Less, Stewardship, Challenge by Choice, Living on the Edge, Generosity of Spirit, and Happy Warrior. More to come on these values later.
Strathcona Staff chose the following projects to support with the Strathcona Circle Bracelets.
Ethiopian Environmental Project
Project Goal: To make a substantial contribution to the decrease in environmental degradation by using elementary schools as centres of change and teachers as change agents. Every dollar given is matched with 3 dollars by Canadian International Development Agency. www.sim.ca/ethiopiaenvironmentalprojectprofilep122.php.
The Otesha Project
SPL instructor Erika Spearman is a 2007 participant of The Otesha Project’s education programs and bicycle tour. Otesha uses theatre, multi-media and storytelling to teach people to re-evaluate daily choices to reflect the kind of future they would like to see – rethinking needs, conserving resources and voting with dollars. www.otesha.ca
Wilderness Committee
The Wilderness Committee is Canada's largest membership-based citizen-funded wilderness preservation organization. WC work for the preservation of Canadian and international wilderness through research and grassroots education. The Wilderness Committee works on the ground to achieve ecologically sustainable communities. WC works only through lawful means. www.wildernesscommittee.org. Funds for the Wilderness Committee will be specifically directed to the Friends of Strathcona Park should the need arise.
You can help by purchasing a $2 wrist band and/or making a donation.
