FRANCES WITT mid-70s

Frances has been one of my very best friends since the early 60s and has helped by working in the garden and carrying out various other volunteer projects over the years.
In the late fall, when the last of the guests had left and just the staff and family were at the lodge, we used to move our kitchen up to the top of the administration building for the winter. We would cook and eat all our meals up there until the spring start up when we would move back to the main dining room. When moving day came, we would get ready and have a noisy parade between the buildings, with everyone banging pots and pans, whirling utensils, flapping towels and aprons. I re- member twirling the egg beater across the yard.

Some summers, the kitchen gardens covered the whole area below the dining room porch. What a wonderful site it was at lunch time, to see the sprinklers sweeping the lush vegetables. Jim was so proud of that garden.
