Have you ever travelled on a canoe on the ocean? If you get to go to the mouth of the Burman River you will.

Rufous Humming Bird

The Rufous humming birds are really entertaining to watch here at the Lodge. Rufous Hummingbird is one of the most aggressive of all species of Hummingbirds. They are well known for chasing each other out of territory. These birds are serious about protecting where they are going to live and where they are going to eat. Even when they aren’t eating themselves they will carefully be monitoring their feeding areas, you can see them sitting on a branch, close to the feeder with their heads going back and forth looking for others. If they notice any Hummingbirds that seem to be taking an interest in doing the same thing they will quickly try to drive them away.  Photo courtesy of Meredith Wires.

This was a particular fun day at Strathcona Park Lodge. The staff decided to play pirates and treasures out on the lake with all sort of boats and water canons/buckets. The team which ended up with the most treasure back on land won and I can't remember who who won as most people were laughing too hard.
