“Staff at SPL are of the highest class - knowledgeable, patient, friendly, kind and well-trained in their areas. 10/10!
I
also like the Paul and Ryan took the time to de-brief with us at the end - it makes us feel valued.”
- Shannon, Richmond Incentive Program, May 24-29, 2009

SAFETY is Strathcona's first priority.

Ongoing staff training, highly qualified instructors and continuous evaluation of procedures contribute to an enviable safety record. Through the constant upgrading of equipment and facilities along with regular review of safety practices, Strathcona endeavours to ensure that the safety and well being of program participants is never compromised.

INSTRUCTORSFire starting
Educational programs at Strathcona are delivered by professional and highly skilled instructors. They love the outdoors and they love to teach and share their passion for adventure. Our instructors are excellent role models, and are chosen, not only for their high level of technical skill, but because they are smart, energetic, caring leaders who have the ability to work with and care for youth. All instructors require a criminal record check and hold current certification in Wilderness First Aid & CPR. Other qualifications include: BCRCA Canoe Instructor, WKABC Whitewater Instructor, ACKSG and SKGA Sea Kayak Guides, Swiftwater Rescue Technician & NLS. Instructors receive ongoing training and evaluation and are encouraged to further develop themselves professionally.

"The students felt supported, important, trustworthy and respected. As a result, they trusted. Thanks for not letting them down." (Kim Knowles, teacher, J.P. Dallos Middle School)

BCCA ACCREDITATION
Frequent audits by outside agencies like the British Columbia Camping Association ensure that our safety practices remain current and meet their high standards. The BCCA evaluates our equipment, our procedures, and our staff.

THE END RESULT
Every Strathcona Park Lodge program provides students with a holistic outdoor experience that enables them to appreciate the outdoors for its recreational, resource and inherent wilderness value, and develops their self-concept, leadership and interpersonal skills.
